CHICAGO- The Saint Xavier Women's Basketball team volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Oak Lawn on a Sunday morning during their season. They planned a breakfast for the visitors and bought enough groceries to feed 30-35 people and cooked at the house for the children and families that were staying.
The team had talked about going to the Ronald McDonald House a few years ago, but finally decided to go this year. Junior, Michelle Tourtillott, took charge in organizing the event and contacting the Ronald McDonald House with their idea. Head coach, Bob Hallberg, allowed the girls to take money out of the team's funds so it ended up being a donation from the women's basketball team.
"I felt like this was someting so simple, but helped people in need, that it was something I really wanted to do and hope the future teams will continue to do annually if not do more volunteering during our free time," said Tourtillott. "We recieved a lot of verbal graditude from the people that came down to eat breakfast. It was nice to have a small action be appreciated and helpful."
