CHICAGO- Saint Xavier women's basketball player, Brittany Jones, has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the Saint Catherine Award.  The Saint Catherine Award is given annually by the Kappa Gamma Pi for outstanding service and leadership.  Jones will be presented with the award at the Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 13th, 2011.  The ceremony will be held from 4:30 to 6:00pm in the Butler Reception Room.

Currently, Jones is the Student Government President.  She is also working on two different research projects with two different professors.  Throughout her years at Saint Xavier, Jones has participated in many service projects as well, including her own that she did her freshmen year, where she donated her left over meal money to make lunches for a non profit organization called Pro Labore Dei. They feed the homeless every saturday and monday morning in a liquor store parking lot in Robbins, Illinois.  She also volunteers every Tuesday morning, with two other fellow teammates at PADs, where they have put their own program together called Movie Tuesdays.  Every Tuesday they bring a movie and snacks to the shelter where people have a place to come hang out for the morning indoors.

“Any time a member of your team, not only is nominated, but also wins a prestigious award like the Saint Catharine Award, it reflects well on your program," commented Head Women's Basketball coach and Athletic Director, Bob Hallberg.  "We try to make sure that our ladies are more than just basketball players and I think that Brittany Jones proves that there is something to be said for being a well-rounded student-athlete.”
